loudspeakers

The cheapest component in my system are the loudspeakers - does not make sense - but I think they sound great (with some modifications).

Pioneer SP-BS22-LR bookshelf speakers, designed by Andrew Jones (less than 100$ on ebay): http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/Speakers/Pioneer+Speakers/SP-BS22-LR

Specifications:
› Frequency Range…………….55 Hz-20 kHz
› Nominal Impedance……………6 Ohms
› Sensitivity (2.83 V)……………85 dB
› Maximum Input Power…………80 W
› Cross-Over Frequency…………3 kHz

These speakers offer fantastic value, and can be improved upon by upgrading the tweeter and crossover filters:http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/dennis-murphy-pioneer-sp-bs22-lr-diy-modifications.610820/

I changed the tweeter, removed the crossover filters, installed an additional binding post to connect each speaker to a v200 amplifier, with a digital crossover.

Good quality and reasonably priced four conductor cables for bi-wiring: Canare 4S11 Speaker Cable

On my wish list: Elac B6 (also designed by A.Jones), available for 300$ in the US, around 400€ in Europe. Will be on the look out for a second hand pair in Europe. Some modifications can be done on the B6 as well to improve it - especially the crossover filter (so removing it may be a good idea): http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=836fivc98um7rce3iab3d5aef4&topic=138550.0
